  12. Strictly speaking, I put that message there - he's running the
  13. unregistered version of my Windows FTP daemon.  In the registered
  14. version, that message doesn't appear, and you get to put whatever
  15. message you want when someone logs in or out.

  17. I figure it's a harmless (and amusing) way to get more people to
  18. register :-)  (Although I haven't yet sold 20 copies!)

  44. PC/TCP has definitely had some problems.  I don't know if they are all 
  45. resolved, but their UDP support is very minimal.  They can't reassemble 
  46. fragmented packets!

  48. I use Distinct TCP/IP and have had great results with it.  Their full package 
  49. includes several good apps, as well.  I've seen Microsoft use their apps in 
  50. demos of the Windows NT TCP/IP also.

  52. I used an older version of Chameleon, and wasn't very impressed.  They didn't 
  53. even support packet drivers.  You had to load up all the NDIS stuff just to 
  54. use it.  It wouldn't coexist with Novell without buying an add-on component.  
  55. Distinct supports NDIS, ODI, and packet drivers right out of the box, and 
  56. includes several of these with it.

  58. I'm not sure what the new Chameleon setup looks like, but one of the gripes I 
  59. had with the older one was that it was "too slick".  At least with Distinct's 
  60. it was obvious what they added to the end of the autoexec.bat, and (using 
  61. packet drivers) no changes were required anywhere else.

  63. Unlike PC/TCP, Distinct is DLL based, and doesn't require a giant chunk of 
  64. your precious 640k of DOS memory.  In fact, when it is not active it requires 
  65. only about 4k of memory.  PC/TCP  (which I also have on some machines I 
  66. support), being a TSR base stack, uses between 50k and 90k of DOS memory ALL 
  67. THE TIME!
